Primary
Primary
Each of our classes is led by a qualified, British trained/experienced teacher and benefits from the additional support of a teaching assistant. Our hard working staff are experts at differentiating their teaching to meet the needs of all of the learners in their care.
Our primary school is organized into ‘mileposts’ which provides children with developmentally appropriate subject goals, personal learning goals, and international learning goals. These are defined for each age phase as follows:
Ages 5-7 Milepost One, Years One and Two
Ages 7-9 Milepost Two, Year One and Two
Ages 9-11 Milepost Three, Years Five and Six
Subject Goals
Subject goals cover the knowledge, skills and understanding of children relating to the subjects they are learning. There are subject learning goals for English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Technology, History, Geography, Music, Physical Education, Art and Japanese.
Personal Learning Goals
Personal goals underpin the individual qualities and dispositions we believe children will find essential in the modern world. At St. Michael’s these include our seven values (endeavour, respect, responsibility, compassion, tolerance, honesty and integrity) and four personal skills (communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.)
International Learning Goals
International learning goals are an essential part of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and help young children begin the move towards an increasingly sophisticated national, international and intercultural perspective. Each thematic unit includes an international aspect, to help develop a sense of ‘international mindedness’.
